Short Answer

Yes bank account cannot be closed online. To close the Yes Bank account, visit the nearest Yes bank branch and submit a duly-filled Yes Bank account closure form . Your bank account will be closed within 10 working days.

Detailed Answer

Yes Bank is a private-sector bank offering retail banking, corporate banking and asset management services. It is now among India's larger private lenders, with Japan's Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) as its biggest shareholder.

Still, people close accounts every day. You may have switched jobs and got a new salary account. You may be tired of the minimum balance rule. Or you may simply want fewer accounts to track.

Whatever the reason, here is exactly how the closure works, what it costs, and the steps most people miss.

Can You Close a Yes Bank Account Online?

No. Not fully.

Yes Bank does not have a "close account" button in YES Mobile or in net banking. You cannot finish the process on your phone.

What you can do online is the prep work:

  • Download the account closure form
  • Transfer out your balance
  • Cancel standing instructions, SIPs and auto-debits
  • Download your full account statement

The final step still needs a branch visit. Your signature has to be verified in person, and your debit card and cheque book have to be surrendered. Almost every bank in India works this way.

Yes Bank Account Closure - Documents You Need

Keep these ready before you go:

  • Filled and signed account closure form
  • Self-attested copy of PAN card
  • Self-attested copy of Aadhaar or another address proof
  • Unused cheque leaves
  • Debit card
  • Passbook, if issued

If the account is jointly held, every holder must sign the form. Every holder also needs to attach KYC copies.

Steps to Close Your Yes Bank Account

Step 1. Download the closure form.

Go to the Yes Bank website. Open the Support section from the top menu, then click Download Forms. Search for "closure". The form is available in English, Hindi and several regional languages. You can also collect a copy from any branch.

Step 2. Fill in the details.

The form asks for:

  • Name of the account holder(s)
  • Account number and branch name
  • Customer ID
  • Type of account
  • Reason for closure
  • Details of any linked Demat, mutual fund, fixed deposit or locker account
  • How you want the remaining balance paid out

Step 3. Choose how you want your money back.

You can ask for a NEFT or RTGS transfer to another bank account. You can also ask for a demand draft or pay order. Write the target account number and IFSC clearly. Double-check both.

Step 4. Sign the form.

All account holders must sign. Sign the back of each photocopied document too.

Step 5. Attach the documents and surrender your cards.

Hand over the unused cheque leaves and the debit card. Cut the debit card across the chip before handing it in.

Step 6. Submit at your home branch.

Give the form and documents to the branch officer. Ask for an acknowledgement slip. It carries a service request (SR) number. Keep it. You will need it to track the request.

Yes Bank Account Closing Charges

This is where most people get the wrong information. The charge depends on how old your account is, not simply whether 30 days have passed.

| When you close | Charge |

| --- | --- |

| Within 30 days of opening | Nil |

| Between 30 days and 1 year | ₹500 + GST (about ₹590) |

| After 1 year | Nil |

So if your account is more than a year old, you pay nothing to close it.

This is as per Yes Bank's Savings Account Schedule of Charges. It applies to most savings variants. Current accounts and special account categories follow a different schedule, so check the relevant document or ask your branch.

If your account falls in the 30-day to 1-year window, the branch may also ask for the branch manager's signature on the annexure section of the form.

Yes Bank Account Closure - How Long Does It Take?

Most closures are done within 48 hours. Some take up to 7 working days.

Your remaining balance is usually credited to the account you named within the same window. You will get an SMS once the account is officially closed.

If you hear nothing after a week, call customer care with your SR number.

Closing Your Yes Bank Account - Do This Before You Submit the Form

Skipping these is what causes trouble later.

Clear any negative balance. If non-maintenance charges have pushed your account into the negative, the branch will ask you to settle it first.

Cancel every auto-debit. SIPs, insurance premiums, utility bills, OTT subscriptions, loan EMIs. Cancel them from net banking or the app. A failed auto-debit after closure can trigger return charges.

Delink your UPI. Remove the account from every UPI app you use.

Move your balance out. Leave only enough to cover the closure fee, if one applies.

Download your statements. Save a PDF of your full statement from account opening to date. Banks do not let you reopen a closed account, and getting old statements later is a hassle.

Update your account details everywhere. Your employer, EPFO, income tax e-filing portal, insurers and mutual fund folios all need your new account number. Do this before closure, not after. A salary credit or tax refund sent to a closed account will bounce.

Closing a Linked Demat Account

If you hold a Demat or trading account with Yes Securities, mention it on the closure form. Tick the relevant box and give the account details.

A Demat account with holdings cannot simply be closed. Transfer or sell the holdings first. Only then can the account be shut.

After the Account Closes

Keep the acknowledgement slip and the closure SMS.

Ask the branch for a No Objection Certificate or closure confirmation letter. It is useful proof if any dispute comes up later.

Also check your credit report after a couple of months. A closed bank account should not show up as an active liability, but errors do happen.

FAQs

Go to your home branch where possible. Some requests are accepted at other branches, but the home branch is faster.

The account becomes dormant after a period of no activity. Charges may still accrue on some variants. It is cleaner to close it formally.

No.

Can a closed account be reopened?

No. You would need to open a fresh account.

How to close Yes Bank Account Online and Offline? In Short

Yes Bank accounts can only be closed offline, by submitting the closure form at a branch. The process usually finishes within 48 hours to 7 working days.

The charge is nil if the account is under 30 days old or over a year old. In between, it is ₹500 plus GST.

The paperwork is the easy part. Cancelling your auto-debits and updating your account details elsewhere is what actually saves you trouble.
